Movie. Earth Versus the Flying Saucers. Ray Harryhausen masterpiece of science fiction scare the crap out of you days!
Now that I've got everyone thinking about flying saucers again, how about one of the good old guys, "Earth Versus the Flying Saucers?"
For the time that it came out...in the fifties...there was absolutely nothing to compare it to, except for "Forbidden Planet," and "This Island Earth," giants in their own rights.
It was the Cold War. Grab your butts and kiss them goodbye when the alarms sound, because no one's seeing daylight after the world is nuked, except for cockroaches.
People were scared. Real scared.
And then the White House got buzzed by a dozen or so saucers and our government couldn't stand the idea that there was someone out there that could just waltz in and kick their butts goodbye. So then we began hearing about Men in Black, flying saucer abductions and all manner of craziness...some of it deeply rooted in truth.
I met at least two people who claimed to have met aliens and one who claimed to have been abducted. Small world, hey?
Anyway, it's only natural when everyone is scared to death of the Nuke end of the world and invasion by bigger men from the stars that movies should fill in that void of needing to be scared sh.....less.
So Ray Harryhausen, the master of special effects, not one to sit back and let everyone else have the fun, worked up this little masterpiece.
Enjoy the preview!
